Biley, Shack & more

Posted by RoJo On April - 28 - 2009

Byron Miley Biley Wiley jogged out to left field at Parkview Field on Friday night, April 17, and all was fine. His Dayton Dragons were taking on our home town Fort Wayne Tin Caps, and it was the first game in the new Parkview Field I had went to. I sat in the left field “Home Run Porch”, and in the very first inning, it was certainly living up to its name… UNTIL BYRON WILEY DECIDED TO CHEAT AND LIE!

In the bottom of the first inning, Tin Caps to bat, lefty Sawyer Carroll lined a deep shot to left field. The ball, winding up literally 6 or seven feet away from my seat, hit above the left field wall, but right on the rail above the wall separating the wall from the first row of seats in the outfield. It was clearly a home run, hitting above the wall (similar to left field at Cleveland’s Progressive Field) but the umpires called it in play, resulting in a double. Biley, who had an excellent view, and knew the ball was over the wall, SAID NOTHING! Talk about a poor sport. Mr. Liar just casually played the ball as if it was in play, thus causing the left field fans to hate him forever. Dude could have been honest, but chose to do evil. Since then, no good came from him. He also struck out a couple times in the game, I believe, but that isn’t the issue.

Anyway, since then, turns out Biley is actually the leading hitter on his team. Along with an average over .340, he leads the team in RBI. He’s prone to strike outs, however, with 9 so far in 34 official at bats. The Dayton Dragons play the Tin Cappers many times this season, so we’re sure to see more of him. I doubt he gets a call up anytime soon, because for a cleanup power hitter, he has yet to homer and only has two extra base hits.

I only got to see one game of the last Dragons-Tin Caps homestand, mostly due to work. Working nights hinders my ability to see my beloved (oh, certainly beloved) Tin Caps in action. It’s a busy time at The Shack, what with the $49.99 laptop and new AT&T handsets and all… Okay, and don’t forget batteries on sale every week! Next week, however, Tin Caps action will be taken in no matter what. This, and the final three episodes of this season’s HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER~!

(22) “Right Place Right Time” May 4, 2009
After Ted runs into an old flame, he talks to his future kids about how being in the right place at the right time can impact a person’s life. Meanwhile, Barney celebrates his 200th female conquest.

(23) “As Fast As She Can” May 11, 2009
When an old acquaintance who feels he’s ruined Ted’s life insists on helping him find a job, the act of kindness backfires. Meanwhile, Barney tries to prove he can talk his way out of a speeding ticket.

(24) “The Leap” May 18, 2009
When Ted pulls an all-nighter working on a pitch in an attempt to bring business to his fledgling architecture firm, Marshall tries to lure him to the roof for a surprise 31st birthday party. Also the story of the Goat is continued.

Also, CBS announced that the final episodes will see the Barney-Robin storyline progress, with Ted giving his blessing to Barney to profess his love to Robin. Should be interesting. And finally, we’ll get the GOAT STORY~!

Angel Mercado Update

Posted by RoJo On April - 27 - 2009

ANGEL! Oh, I remember on TinCaps opening day when you jogged out to left field, and Russ, Sean and I all thought you were Sawyer Carroll. We didn’t know any better, but we sure got smartened up quickly. You hit a game winning home run that night, but more importantly, you engraved your name into the RnR Hall of Fame. No matter what you do the rest of your baseball career, you’ll always be the owner of Left Field at Parkview field… even though you were only there for a week.

Angel Mercado was drafted just last year, and since, has risen up the ranks of the San Diego Padres minor league system. Currently, he plays in High Class A for the Lake Elsinore Storm. He’s been the DH mostly, after playing LF for the TinCaps. He’s hitting just under .200, with one RBI since joining the club, but we’re sure a hot streak is in his near future. BTW, Lake Elsinore’s opponents this past weekend were the Inland Empire 66′ers. That’s not too notable, but their LF’er is… Preston Mattingly, son of Yankee great Don Mattingly.

We’re following Mercado throughout the year, to see where he ends up and how well he does. More updates on Dayton outfielder Byron “Biley” Wiley and current TinCappers Sawyer Carroll and Jaff Decker coming~!

Almost May

I just got a new camera this weekend. Took some pictures at the Fort Wayne Tin Caps game on Friday night, and then some pics of my awesome dog. Charlie, my three year old golden retriever, just celebrated his 3rd birthday yesterday. Prepare for cuteness…

TinCaps~!
The Tin Caps, by the way, lost their spot on top of the Midwest League Eastern Division after splitting a double header yesterday against the Midland Michigan Whatchamacallits.

Oh well, last week was awful for the team, but a new week starts today. GO GET ‘EM, JAFF! Speaking of the Tin Caps, at this point there are three players that RnR will be keeping close eye on going forward this year…

1) Jaff Decker
2) Angel Mercado
3) Byron Wiley

First update coming along. Hopefully, one day, two of the three will make a major league club while the other (Wiley) stays in Class A ball FOREVER!

It’s Real Now

Fort Wayne, IN

It’s real now. The last year of hype, the new ballpark, and a new name for a minor league baseball team that has called Fort Wayne home since 1993, is all now in the past, and the future is Tin Caps baseball in the Summit City!

Russ and I went to the tonight’s Tin Caps game, along with our buddy Sean, only the second regular season game at Parkview Field in Tin Caps history. What made this game more special is that the Tin Caps entered undefeated, with a record of 7-0. Well, we’re still undefeated, as the Tin Cappers won 8-3 tonight to move up to eight wins. We hold sole possession of first place in the Midwest League Eastern division of Class A baseball. Hooray~!

It was rocky at first, as we played from behind for most of the game. It wasn’t until a breakout seventh inning, and a game changing home run by Left Fielder and HERO Angel Mercado, that the former Wiz Kids and new TinCappers gained control on the game for the first time.

It was a sloppy game at times, but exciting. And, having seen my first Tin Caps game now, I can safely say that I am ALL UP INTO THE HYPE! Angel Mercado, SAWYER Carroll, and our 8-0 TC’ers will own this season, I am confident to say.

Before I go.. Dayton Dragons outfielder Byron Wiley…YOU’RE ON NOTICE!

Home Run Porch will be an amazing place to watch our Tin Caps grow this season.

Nightfall @ Parkview Field – Tin Caps at bat.

The pitch about to be made to Angel Mercado of the TinCaps in the 7th Inning.

The outfielders, stunned. The Home Run Porch, happy. HOME RUN MERCADO~!
