Updates on some minor league BALLERS…
Angel Mercado continues to be put up some pretty good numbers as the minor league outfielder plays for Double-A Lake Elsinore in California. After a good week start in Fort Wayne, Mercado has actually improved his batting average in AA to .300, with two RBIs. He doesn’t play everyday, however, and when he does, he hits fifth or sixth in the lineup while playing Left Field or DH. So Mercado hasn’t been in Fort Wayne recently, but someone else just made a three game swing here last weekend…
BYRON WILEY – Wiley only played one game in the recent Dayton Dragons swing through Fort Wayne. Only playing Sunday, Wiley had an average day at the plate in a losing effort. The Tin Caps have dominated the Dayton Dragons, winning all seven games in the season series. Tin Caps are in first place in the Midwest League!
More updates on our beloved Tin Caps as the season progresses. ESPN 1380 Fort Wayne has coverage of all games.
ANGEL & Wiley…
Angel Mercado Update

ANGEL! Oh, I remember on TinCaps opening day when you jogged out to left field, and Russ, Sean and I all thought you were Sawyer Carroll. We didn’t know any better, but we sure got smartened up quickly. You hit a game winning home run that night, but more importantly, you engraved your name into the RnR Hall of Fame. No matter what you do the rest of your baseball career, you’ll always be the owner of Left Field at Parkview field… even though you were only there for a week.
Angel Mercado was drafted just last year, and since, has risen up the ranks of the San Diego Padres minor league system. Currently, he plays in High Class A for the Lake Elsinore Storm. He’s been the DH mostly, after playing LF for the TinCaps. He’s hitting just under .200, with one RBI since joining the club, but we’re sure a hot streak is in his near future. BTW, Lake Elsinore’s opponents this past weekend were the Inland Empire 66′ers. That’s not too notable, but their LF’er is… Preston Mattingly, son of Yankee great Don Mattingly.
We’re following Mercado throughout the year, to see where he ends up and how well he does. More updates on Dayton outfielder Byron “Biley” Wiley and current TinCappers Sawyer Carroll and Jaff Decker coming~!
