Ball State F’s Up

Posted by RoJo On November - 25 - 2008
  • On Saturday, during a Ball State college basketball game, it’s being stated that Ball State University intimated that those in attendance at Tuesday night’s football home game would receive vouchers for a free ticket to a Ball State bowl game this year. Ball State, currently 11-0, is destined for a bowl, possibly on New Year’s Day. Students were excited about this offer, made in part due to crummy conditions expected tomorrow night at a game being played when many students are heading home for Thanksgiving. The excitement grew when over 20,000 students were sent an e-mail with this photo and message…

  • However, anger and confusion quickly took over as an email Monday afternoon sent to students read…

    Ball State Students,

The athletics department truly appreciates all the support you have given the Ball State football team and all of our other programs. Monday morning an e-mail was inadvertently sent out about free bowl game tickets to students attending Tuesday’s game vs. Western Michigan.

Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to fulfill that promise. We certainly need your support tomorrow night against Western Michigan and appreciate your attendance at all of our events.

Once we know if we are going to a bowl game, the student packages will be announced.

Thanks for all your support. See you Tuesday night when the Ball State football team takes on Western Michigan at 7 p.m. at Scheumann Stadium.

    Go Cardinals!!

Yeah, they retracted the offer. Here’s what one student thought of the situation…

    Dear Ball State Athletics Marketing,

Before advertising a promotion which would cost the university $400,000, we suggest that you run it by someone with actual authority first. Approved methods of communication include a face to face meeting, e-mail, fax, text, Facebook message, IM, post it note, thread on Juicy Campus, or just about anything. Non-approved messages include announcements at basketball games on Saturday followed by an e-mail to 20,000 students Monday morning followed by an e-mail late Monday afternoon claiming that the e-mail sent earlier was inadvertent. Please take this in consideration for the future, AND GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES YOU STUPID PIECES OF FUCKING SHIT!

    Love always,
    Ball State Students

Of course, giving away free bowl game tickets would be insanity, especially when BSU doesn’t even know when the game will be, where the game will be, or even what bowl it will be. It was too early to promise such a thing, but the fact they did (don’t be fooled, BSU was inadvertent, they just flat out released specifics too early), signifies major miscommunication and lack of experience dealing with a major sporting event in the school’s history. So far, for an undefeated team destined to a bowl, they’ve acted like exactly what they are… inexperienced. Oh, and somewhat dorky. We’ll see what offer ends up being made, but come on Ball State…issuing a takeback. What are we, in highschool?

    Free tix…JK~!

Oh, and don’t forget BSU homers. You’re 3-8 in the Big Ten, at best, and that’s a conference so pathetic that Nate Davis may even be mediocre. To me, an amazing game to watch would be Michigan vs Ball State, because while the talent may be on Michigan’s side, the swagger is on the little MAC team this year. Put them both in the Big 12, and I think they’re on similar footing, and could be interesting, even if bad.

    Mike Golic, Jr. Arrested, more…

Mike Golic, Jr., son of ESPN radio host Mike Golic (Mike & Mike In The Morning), was among 41 people arrested late Saturday night at a South Bend home for misdemeanor alcohol charges. Golic is 18 years old.

Indiana State Excise Police Sgt. Al Taylor says 20-year-old [Will] Yeatman and 18-year-old Golic were charged with being minors consuming alcohol. He says others arrested included members of the Notre Dame lacrosse and soccer teams.

Golic, Jr. and fellow teammate Will Yeatman had been partying after a loss to Michigan State on Saturday. Mike is an incoming freshman. His journey from high school to recruitment to joining the Notre Dame team had been documented often on his father’s ESPN morning radio show.

This wasn’t the only college football arrest over the weekend. This comes from the Chicago Tribune regarding Iowa linebacker Dezman Moses…

Also, before the Ball State @ Indiana Hoosiers game on Saturday night in Bloomington, 78 citations were handed out to minors tailgating around the stadium for illegal consumption or possession of alcohol. Nearly 100 total citations were handed out to tailgaters prior to the game. No serious mishaps were reported for post-game activities. The game featured Ball State’s first ever football win against a BCS conference opponent.
