Spring Is (Almost) Here

Posted by RoJo On March - 31 - 2009

While the weather here in Indiana hasn’t exactly been Spring-like, we are now into the second season of 2009. Tomorrow is April 1, it should be warming up anytime now, right? Ha, well, maybe it will after the next two days of rain and snow drive through the area. It’s April 1… come on.

Well, it’s been a while since we’ve updated this site due to various location changes and work related issues. We’re back, however, and better than ever. One of the features ongoing this summer on our weblog will be coverage of our SINGLE A FORT WAYNE TINCAPS~! Single A baseball in Fort Wayne in a brand new stadium is many buys, and I’m sure you’ll all agree during the course of this summer. Russ n’ RoJo will be making our way to our first game at the new ballpark on Friday, April 17 for Tin Caps vs Dayton Dragons. The Tincaps, for those unaware, are the single A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Many MLB players have made stops in Fort Wayne over the last decade or so on their way to glory, including Kerry Wood, Josh Beckett, LaTroy Hawkins, Matt Lawton and many more. We’ll see what 2009 can produce. I think Russ is in the same boat as I, and are looking to refocus some attention onto baseball from other hobbies this summer. Let’s go Tin Caps, and let’s go White Sox…

I’ll be a guest on Ben Gordon’s podcast/internet show ‘Tope Con Coolio’ on Thursday night, April 2. Show can be found at 7pm EDT at blogtalkradio.com/topeconcoolio. We’ll be talking pro wrestling, including this weekend’s CHIKARA King of Trios and my past as a referee. Yeah, more referee stories will be told on this site in the coming months, I’m sure. It’s a crazy and ridiculous world.

We’ve got a schedule of events RnR will be at and reviewing up on the main menu under ‘SCHEDULE’. Coming up, some wrassling, baseball, and TV. Don’t forget, new The Office this week, also. Ultimate Fighter 9 starts tomorrow, and I’ll be watching and reviewing.

Congrats to Faye Reagan for making it big.

A Twitter has been set up ~ FOLLOW US! Twitter.com/rojo101

Have some awesome plans for retro reviews, and I hope they can come to fruition in the coming months. More later!

MMA, GnR, MLB and such!

- Guns N’ Roses has a release date for Chinese Democracy! After 17 years of waiting, GnR’s new album will be sold through Best Buy beginning on Sunday, November 23.

- Russ & I will be back later this week to continue with the topic of adult entertainment, as we’ll take a look at more mainstream stars, stars of the past, trends, etc. If you missed our first entry, relating to current “reality” adult stars, you can check it out HERE.

- The World Series starts tonight. I’ll be viewing that and The Ultimate Fighter tonight. Junie Browning fights on TUF8 tonight, yayaz~! We also get more pranks, a black-belt callout, and more on the Frank Mir heel turn. Should be a good night of television. As for the Series, I predict Rays in 6, with the Phillies winning tonight. Boom. I’m horrible at predictions, though, so maybe you all should bet on the Phils to take it.

Red Sox, Rays Advance

Posted by RoJo On October - 6 - 2008

The Major League Baseball Championship Series in the American and National Leagues will consist of three East division teams, and one scrappy West division team, as we found out the final entrants tonight.

In the American League, we’ll get two East division teams squaring off. The experienced Red Sox, led by left-handed captain Jason Varitek, phenom Jon Lester and slugger David Ortiz, will take on the post-season rookie Tampa Bay Rays. Rookie Evan Longoria and All-Star pitcher Scott Kazmir lead the Rays into their first ever ALCS on a mission to become AL East champs, AL champs, and World Series champions only a year after finishing with the worst record in Major League Baseball. With only 66 wins last year, the Rays are now only eight away from going worst-to-first in baseball.

The Rays defeated the White Sox today 6-2 in Chicago to win their AL Division Series three games to one. The Red Sox defeated the team that finished this season with the best record in baseball, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They won their series tonight three games to one, after a walk-off single by Jed Lowrie scored Sox newcomer Jason Bay to defeat the Angels 3-2. Now, the Sox travel to Tampa to take on the Rays on Friday to begin the ALCS. This is the Sox fourth visit to the ALCS since 2003, while this, of course, is the Rays first ever postseason trip in team history.

The NLCS will start on Thursday night on FOX, as Manny Ramirez looks to lead his new Dodger team into familiar territory – the World Series. The Dodgers, fresh off a sweep of the Cubs, will take on the Philadelphia Phillies, who defeated the Brewers three games to one on Sunday afternoon. This will be a matchup of two teams who displayed fabulous pitching in their Division Series games, but the offenses may be the story, as whoever gets hot at the right time could take the series. So far, Manny has been very hot at the right time, displaying MVP type numbers since becoming a Dodger on July 31. The winner of this series will take on the ALCS winner in the World Series.

A series most anticipated by myself and others I have spoken with seems to be a potential reunion of Manny and the Red Sox. Networks sure wouldn’t hate it, getting the large Boston and Los Angeles media markets involved. How would Manny be received for the first time in Fenway since his trade? We can find out later this month if the Sox and Dodgers find a way to get past their current opponents, which will be no small feat.

RoJo Predictions:

Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays (Boston Wins Series; 4-2)

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Philadelphia Phillies (Dodgers Win Series; 4-3)

So far, they can!

  • Russ n’ RoJo traveled out to Chicago’s US Cellular Field yesterday for game #162 of the White Sox regular season. While the trip as a whole was a big failure, the White Sox did end up winning which sends them into a play-in game tonight against the Twins. The game, which will send the winner into the AL Playoffs, is actually ongoing right now as we have no score in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Russ will have his take on the White Sox road to the postseason, as well as yesterday’s trip, later on here so be sure to check the site out for that. I’ll have an audio update on the trip tonight going into more detail on the EPIC FAIL, and may have a guest, as well.
  • Cubs series starts tomorrow at 6:30 PM EDT/5:30 Central. They’ll host the Dodgers, and hopefully they’ll get out of the first round this year. World Series or bust, kids!
  • Still looking for that ever elusive job. I’ve been sending resumes everywhere, including Ball State University, Best Buy, and many offices around town. If anyone wants to donate to this site (ie Me), that’d be awesome! Otherwise, please click on our ad on the right hand side of this site, as it’d really help and will only take a few seconds out of your time to visit. Clicking helps, it really does, and is very much appreciated! Thanks.
  • ShoXC next weekend, EliteXC this weekend, WWE No Mercy this weekend, Baseball and pre-season hockey this weekend… BUSY.
  • Can They Do It?

  • I’ve been resting all day following my weekend adventure at IWA:Mid South in Chicago, and now am somehow headed right back to Chicago for White Sox baseball tomorrow. It’s game #162, and a win means a game #163 vs those rival Twins who sucked the fun all out of the Sox season in September. So the White Sox host the Tigers tomorrow for a rescheduled game that will determine whether the White Sox season is over, or they play once more for a shot at going to the playoffs. Russ N RoJo will be there live and will undoubtedly have some comments afterwards. Also, I’m hoping to do a couple of audio updates this week, and maybe some video…yayz!
  • The Cubs will end up hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday to start the NLDS. TBS will air the game starting at 6:30 Eastern/5:30 Central. I’d be all for Chip Caray doing Cubs games again, but it will have to wait as TBS has decided to send Chip Caray, along with Buck Martinez, to the Red Sox-Angels games later this week. The Brewers-Phillies series gets a mini-Braves reunion as John Smoltz and Joe Simpson get commentary duties while Brian Anderson holds play-by-play. The Cubs-Dodgers series sees Dick Stockton, Ron Darling and Tony Gwynn in the booth. (Personal note: Ugh.) The AL central winner vs Tampa Bay Rays series will get Don Orsillo and Harold Reynolds in the booth. TBS hosts all opening round MLB Playoff games this year.
  • Tomorrow we head to Chicago, then back here for our second full week of RussnRoJo.com action. Saturday is CBS Primetime Fights with EliteXC featuring Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock and more. Will have thoughts and that fight upcoming and more. Enjoy your week, kids.
