Updates on some minor league BALLERS…
Angel Mercado continues to be put up some pretty good numbers as the minor league outfielder plays for Double-A Lake Elsinore in California. After a good week start in Fort Wayne, Mercado has actually improved his batting average in AA to .300, with two RBIs. He doesn’t play everyday, however, and when he does, he hits fifth or sixth in the lineup while playing Left Field or DH. So Mercado hasn’t been in Fort Wayne recently, but someone else just made a three game swing here last weekend…
BYRON WILEY – Wiley only played one game in the recent Dayton Dragons swing through Fort Wayne. Only playing Sunday, Wiley had an average day at the plate in a losing effort. The Tin Caps have dominated the Dayton Dragons, winning all seven games in the season series. Tin Caps are in first place in the Midwest League!
More updates on our beloved Tin Caps as the season progresses. ESPN 1380 Fort Wayne has coverage of all games.
ANGEL & Wiley…
Biley, Shack & more
Byron Miley Biley Wiley jogged out to left field at Parkview Field on Friday night, April 17, and all was fine. His Dayton Dragons were taking on our home town Fort Wayne Tin Caps, and it was the first game in the new Parkview Field I had went to. I sat in the left field “Home Run Porch”, and in the very first inning, it was certainly living up to its name… UNTIL BYRON WILEY DECIDED TO CHEAT AND LIE!
In the bottom of the first inning, Tin Caps to bat, lefty Sawyer Carroll lined a deep shot to left field. The ball, winding up literally 6 or seven feet away from my seat, hit above the left field wall, but right on the rail above the wall separating the wall from the first row of seats in the outfield. It was clearly a home run, hitting above the wall (similar to left field at Cleveland’s Progressive Field) but the umpires called it in play, resulting in a double. Biley, who had an excellent view, and knew the ball was over the wall, SAID NOTHING! Talk about a poor sport. Mr. Liar just casually played the ball as if it was in play, thus causing the left field fans to hate him forever. Dude could have been honest, but chose to do evil. Since then, no good came from him. He also struck out a couple times in the game, I believe, but that isn’t the issue.
Anyway, since then, turns out Biley is actually the leading hitter on his team. Along with an average over .340, he leads the team in RBI. He’s prone to strike outs, however, with 9 so far in 34 official at bats. The Dayton Dragons play the Tin Cappers many times this season, so we’re sure to see more of him. I doubt he gets a call up anytime soon, because for a cleanup power hitter, he has yet to homer and only has two extra base hits.
I only got to see one game of the last Dragons-Tin Caps homestand, mostly due to work. Working nights hinders my ability to see my beloved (oh, certainly beloved) Tin Caps in action. It’s a busy time at The Shack, what with the $49.99 laptop and new AT&T handsets and all… Okay, and don’t forget batteries on sale every week! Next week, however, Tin Caps action will be taken in no matter what. This, and the final three episodes of this season’s HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER~!
